P O T T E R Y

I make earthenware bowls, cups, and platters using terracotta. My work is inspired by the forms of traditional French rustic pottery combined with the language of British Slipware’s lines, loops and dots, decorated in a palette of soft grey, white, sage, black, and ochre.

I trained as a craft designer at Brighton University, where I specialised in ceramics under the guidance of John Colbeck and Alma Boyes, and graduated in 1997. After seven years of making and teaching, I packed away my studio, unsure when I'd come back to clay, but always hoping I would.

In 2022, I found a local pottery school with studio space and equipment to rent. It was just what I needed to get started again, and soon after, I set up a small studio at home.

I love the rhythm and focus that comes with throwing on the wheel. These days, I’m especially drawn to working with slipware, pouring coloured slips onto soft clay. It’s a slower, more delicate process that needs a gentle touch, but I enjoy how each piece takes on its own character through this method. Pottery keeps me grounded and creatively engaged in a way that feels both calming and full of possibility.
