FOOD AS MEDICINE
There's a direct connection between what you eat and how you feel. You already know this. But finding a practice that actually works, one that gives you confidence that you're doing the right thing, can feel impossibly elusive, and the frustration of searching, trying different approaches, and still feeling depleted is exhausting in itself. This has been my journey with food…
I've always understood that food directly changes how you feel - physically, emotionally, energetically. For years I worked with this intuition through hosting and cooking, but I didn't have the framework to make sense of what I was observing.
When I moved to France to run a yoga retreat and adopted a vegetarian diet, I struggled. Despite my best intentions, I experienced persistent health issues - digestive problems, thyroid complications, exhaustion that wouldn't lift. I tried different approaches, read conflicting advice, but nothing quite worked.
Ayurveda gave me what was missing: a coherent system for understanding how food works in the body. A way of seeing the relationships between ingredients, digestion, immunity, and vitality. A toolbox that made sense to me - compassionate and loving rather than restrictive and rules based.
I then trained as an Ayurvedic Lifestyle Coach, which has guided my understanding of preventative health through cooking and experimentation. Learning which ingredients kindle digestive fire, which ones calm inflammation, how preparation methods change bioavailability, why timing matters. Watching how small adjustments created tangible shifts in physical and emotional wellbeing.
Now I teach from this integrated understanding - combining Ayurvedic principles with seasonal cooking and a deep curiosity about how different ingredients affect the body. I help people develop their own relationship with food: learning to read their system, support their digestion, and make choices that genuinely nourish them.
“Experiencing Tamsin's meals is like coming home to a warm hug after being away for years. You can taste the love. On a 9-day retreat with Tamsin as the chef, our group was well-held with delicious and healing meals each day - flavourful, beautiful to look at, and nourishing to the body. We looked forward to every meal, and the food added to the sense of care and connection between members of the group."
